Kathryn Gongaware
Kathryn has been teaching yoga for 10 years in and out of Chicago. Her classes, as described by students, are playful, fun, and fearless. She teaches authentically and isn't shy about taking things 'out of the box', complimenting old school fundamentals with new school sequences and music. A former athlete, recovering consultant, and current standup comedian - she aims to cultivate balance between strength and length, sweat and stability, time on and off the mat - about as (un)successfully as anyone.
Kathryn serves as acting President of Prison Yoga Chicago, offering yoga and mindfulness to those in custody at Cook County Jail. She leads Teacher Trainings with her mentor, David Duerkop, as well as trauma-informed workshops for those interested in serving incarcerated populations. She has experience with functional movement, active rehabilitation, and, perhaps most importantly, laughing through the tough stuff.
